Dexter Scott King : The youngest son of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr .

Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, has died, as announced by the King Center.

He died on January 22 at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. His wife, Leah Weber King, said he transitioned peacefully in his sleep at their home in Malibu.

He praised her determination and bravery in fighting the disease till the end.

Martin Luther King, III, his brother, expressed the devastating shock of the sudden loss and accepted the challenge of finding the right words to express his grief. He asked for prayers for the entire Raja family.

Dexter Scott King was born on January 30, 1961, in Atlanta and was named after Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where his father served as pastor.

He was only seven years old when his father was tragically murdered in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968. Like his father, he grew up in Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, where his grandfather was the pastor.
